Ok.
This will be a touchy subject.
But.
I have to say it.
Not all babies are cute.
There. I said it. I'm an asshole.
It's true though. Not all babies are cute. Sure, all parents think their babies are cute. But they are biased. When a child is born, a thin, rose-colored film coats the parents' eyes, making it only possible for them to see they child as nothing but cute.
Some babies really are cute. Those are the ones that I have no problem agreeing on when someone says, "Oh look, isn't he/she cute?" Yes, absolutely. Don't ask me to hold him/her though. I'm not all that big on other people's children...
However, when a baby/child just isn't cute...well, let's just say I have a difficult time lying.
When I say I have a difficult time lying...I mean just that. Not because it makes me feel bad. No. Because I just don't care. When my friend asks me if I want to see his new watch/plasma TV, and I shrug and say "Eh", instead of lying to him and saying "Sounds great!", it's because I don't care enough to fake it. It's called assholery realism. You can Google it.
Back to the subject matter...it is highly likely that if I don't answer you when you look to me for confirmation that your child is cute, well...just please don't ask me. I've said it before, I'll say it again...
I'm an asshole.
But, you know that I say what you are thinking. Don't lie.
UPDATE: So, apparently I'm not the only one that thinks of this shit. Doctors have an actual TERM for kids who aren't, ermmm, attractive. "FLK"...which stands for 'Funny Looking Kid". I cannot make this shit up.
